How the GPA Calculator works
How is GPA calculated?
Your percentage score in each course maps to grade points on a 4.0 scale (an A is 4.0, a B is 3.0, and so on). Your GPA is the sum of (grade points × credit hours) for every course, divided by your total credit hours — a credit-weighted average, so a 4-credit class counts more than a 1-credit class.
Why does it use my score instead of a letter?
Schools use different percentage cutoffs for each letter — one school's A might start at 90%, another's at 93%. So you enter your raw score and pick the grading scale that matches your school; the tool converts it accurately. Switch between the whole-letter and plus/minus scales anytime.
What's a weighted vs. unweighted GPA?
This tool computes a credit-weighted GPA (courses with more credit hours count more). A high-school 'weighted' GPA that adds points for honors/AP classes is different — give every course equal credits (e.g., 1) for a simple unweighted average.
Is it really free?
Yes — no account needed. A free StudyNook account lets you save your courses and turn your syllabus into flashcards and practice quizzes to actually raise that GPA.
